The Mustang kicks off with a standard 315-hp 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine, delivering 350 lb-ft through a 10-speed automatic. Upgrading to the active valve performance exhaust increases output to 486 ponies and 418 lb-ft, which allows for a classic six-speed manual gearbox.

For even greater track utility, the race-oriented Dark Horse model cranks out 500 ponies via a naturally aspirated V8 while integrating adaptive MagneRide suspension dampers. The Charger, meanwhile, leaves the V8 behind, adopting a twin-turbocharged inline-six branded as the "Hurricane." In the entry-level R/T configuration, it produces 420 horsepower. Moving up to the track-minded Scat Pack or the high-output Sixpack H.O. increases total delivery to 550 horsepower.
